Leith is the port area of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. The seaport has existed since the 14th century, and boasts lots of culture for almost anybody's tastes with plenty of first-rate restaurants run by some of Scotland's finest chefs, chic bars and grand galleries. Edinburgh is among Europe’s most beautiful cities with medieval tenements in its Old Town complemented by ultra-modern architectural marvels, such as the Scottish Parliament buildings all built among the crags, cliffs and hills of Scotlands rugged coastline.

Located close to the Scottish border, Berwick-upon-Tweed is a family-friendly coastal town in England that promises its visitors plenty to do and explore. Simply walking around the town will give an idea of how historically significant this location is – especially with Berwick’s impressive Elizabethan walls that were built to prevent Scots from invading the town.

Between mainland Shetland and Orkney, lies Fair Isle, an island known best for its marvelous bird watching opportunities among its cliffs, along with a being the origin of a very distinctive style of knitting you see on Christmas jumpers every year! What’s impressive about this island’s history is that it has been inhabited from as far back as the Neolithic period, even though it is one of the UK’s most remote islands, with very little natural resources. Over the centuries, the island’s ownership has been passed around to different countries and kingdoms, and each culture has left its mark.

St Kilda is an isolated volcanic island group that belongs to Scotland. The islands lies in the North Atlantic. The main island of Hirta, whose cliffs are the highest in the UK. St. Kilda was inhabited at least two thousand years continuously, though the population probably never exceeded 180. Currently, military personnel are the only inhabitants.

The Shiants are a small group of islands in the Hebrides, Scotland. There is a large population of seabirds on the isles, including, rumour has it, Europe's oldest Puffin. The Shiants are also the only place in the UK where the black rat (or ship's rat) can still be found.

Dunvegan Castle is famed for being one of the oldest continuously inhabited castles in Great Britain. In addition to visiting the castle, it is recommended that tourists take a boat tour, to admire the region and see the sea lions.

Inverie is the village on the Knoydart peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. It is not connected to the road network and is therefore, quite isolated. No visit to the peninsula is complete without popping in to the Old Forge. The Guinness Book of Records says it is the most remote pub in mainland Britain.

Iona is an island of the Inner Hebrides in Scotland and is located approximately 1.6 kilometers west of the larger island of Mull. Around 125 people lived on the island in 2001, mostly in the capital Baile Mór. The 8.8 square kilometer island was for centuries the spiritual center of Scotland.

The island of Lunga is the largest of the Treshnish Isles in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Populated until the 19th century Lunga still bears the remains of blackhouses. To the northeast of the island lie the remains of the ruined village, which was abandoned in 1857. Lunga is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its abundant plant life. Many rare and endangered plants are native to the island.
