The city of Fort Lauderdale in the U.S. state of Florida and makes an ideal holiday destination. Due to the many canals in the city, Fort Lauderdale is also known as the American Venice. Philipsburg is the capital of the overseas Dutch colony of St. Maarten. Boasting beautiful views of the Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond, it is an ideal location for a Caribbean holiday. On St. Maarten, there is adventure to be found throughout the beautiful island with snorkeling, swimming and horseback riding available. Philipsburg is also a hotspot for bargain hunters, with a mile-long commercial district with a range of duty-free shops. The white sandy beaches of Philipsburg are the perfect location to enjoy some relaxation.

In the capital of St. Lucia, you will find one of the finest harbors in the West Indies. A large part of the islands exports of bananas, sugar cane, rum and syrup pass through Castries. The city was founded by the French, whose influence is felt today. The backdrop to the town is the mountain of Morne Fortune, which is an ever-present reminder of the natural beauty to be found all over the island if you venture away from the colourful buildings, markets and stores.

The capital of the island of Tobago is home to about 5,000 people. The botanical garden in the middle of the city was opened in the 19th Century and is worth seeing.
