Colón is located in Limon Bay, at the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal and is traditionally referred to as “Panama’s second city”. On the decline since the 1960’s due to politically instigated riots and Panama’s subsequent military dictatorships, Colón has undergone an impressive restoration and renovation project since 2014. Now is an exciting time to visit the city as its brand new facelift has brought positivity and hope back to locals. The town of Corinto is situated on a northwest Nicaraguan peninsula stretching into the Pacific. Visitors from the mainland will need to cross one of two bridges connected to the peninsula to reach Corinto. While there, the town's lighthouse is a point of interest, dating back to 1876. All goods imported to or exported from the west coast of Nicaragua go through Corinto as the town serves as the country's only Pacific port.
