The Peruvian capital Lima is also the largest city in the country. Together with the port city of Callao, it forms the so-called metropolitan area. Lima's historic centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. With a mixture of Western influences and indigenous cultures, Lima has developed into a tourist destination not to be missed. Make sure not to miss the site of Pachacamac which is about 40 km south-east of Lima. This site dates back to A.D. 200 and was a religious site built before the Inca invasion of the area.

Easter Island is also home to an extensive National Park. Rano Raraku volcano is located in the National Park and was the quarry which provided the stone for the Moai statues.

Fakarava covers an area of approximately 1,200 square kilometers and is located just 490km northeast of Tahiti. Fakarava is composed of several motu(reef islands) and is the second largest of the Tuamotu atolls. The area has been named as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and is home to a number of rare animals and plants which are protected by the reserve. The main village in Fakarava is Rotoava.
